People keep going on about me brushing up the wrong type of people and that one day I will get my comeuppance and end up either in hospital or at the end of someones fist.
Well I am sorry to disappoint but nothing of that sort has ever happened to me. I have never been hit and the last time that someone got out of the car to have a go at me was further back than I can remember (without looking at videos).
People keep saying these things will happen to me and yet they just havent. So either people have clouded views on what is actually happening on the roads or I am doing something right.

Well I am sorry to disappoint but nothing of that sort has ever happened to me yet. I have never been hit yet and the last time that someone got out of the car to have a go at me was further back than I can remember (without looking at videos).
People who are concerned for my personal safety keep saying these things will happen to me and yet they just havent because I haven't yet met the person who will hit me. So either people have clouded views on what is actually happening on the roads or I am doing something right.

I'd be more than happy for a smallbounty to be given for videos of people phoning and driving.
Make it a criminal offence, not just driving offence.
Deaths from this risky offence would hit near zero fairly quickly and it could even pay its way.

Deaths from this risky offence are currently near zero i.e. around four per year so the 'bounty scheme' might even yield a profit. Way to go!

In 2003, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents claimed to have evidence that at least 20 road deaths since 1998 had involved mobile phone use, but the Society said that there were likely to have been many more, as the cause of accidents is not recorded.

Death toll in road traffic accidents 1998 - 2003 was approx 20,000.

Yes, being on the phone is a dodgy thing to do but fatal consequences appear to be much lower than some folk perceive.
No - Matthew must not become a PCSO. I know autism has a scale and I've no idea where Matthew is on it, but there is a point where one does not know how one comes across to others, what others are feeling etc. I think Matthew will not be able to empathise - especially after having read his posts anyway. I certainly wouldn't want him in an English force.

And of course, his posts about the Welsh language and the Welsh would automatically rule him out. Imagine if he did apply, was accepted and then all his posts here about the Welsh came to light? He'd be better off in a technocratic job that does not rely on having to understand people.
Just for the record, it is very unlikely that I would become a PCSO. Its not the career path I want to go down. And I have no real interest in it. (I do give full support to those who are PCSO's though since finding out that they only have the power of citizens arrest).

Matthew, there are more than two possible states of affairs here.

There are some box-of-frogs loony members of these pages (and I may be one), but many are sage, sensible, thoughtful road users. Over the months you have received constructive and reasoned advice to modify your interaction with other road users. Much of it you've taken.

You are no longer behaving as you did in the shouty-provocation sense, which is a most excellent development and to be commended.

But you are still determined (at a fairly callow age) to intervene frequently in cases where you see a law being broken.

The people advising you against this are not just doing so for fun or to make trouble. They may have some experience of life that at your age you may not have.

Your posts suggest that you are not putting yourself in danger as you did a few months ago, but there is still something of the frustrated vigilante in your writing and in the behaviour you describe.

I urge you to wind back that need to fix all the wrongs you see on the highway. It may be a noble calling, but it will have little or no effect (as demonstrated) and may incite behaviours that might not enhance the ongoing quality of your life.

Just because my cat has not yet been run over, it doesn't mean he has any road sense. He's been lucky so far.

Wishing you well, but wishing you'd stop sticking your neck out and just enjoy the rides,

Boris
