I commute 7 miles, but prefer to ride on an empty stomach in the mornings, so I slip a nature valley granola bar and a banana in my pocket and have them with a nice cup of tea when I arrive at work.

I think porridge tastes like glue...

The finely-milled stuff that's sold in little sachets for microwaving does - and it looks a lot like wallpaper paste, too.

Ordinary porridge oats can be cooked in the microwave too - it just takes a little longer. Add plenty of milk and nuke it for three for four minutes. Stir in home-made jam. Enjoy with an inordinately large mug of strong tea.

Couple of slices of chocolate fudge cake starts me off well in the morning.

[sup](Well, okay, not really. I just stick to 2 slices of toast).

I ride to work (about 6 miles), shower and have breakfast there.

I prefer to ride the 25 minute-journey on an empty stomach and fill up later. I go for Cheerios and All-Bran with yoghurt and strong coffee: keeps me going until lunch.

I know that not everyone has the opportunity to wash, change AND eat at work, but it's a lot more relaxed.

Another one who rides to work (10 miles), showers and has breakfast there......usually a couple of shredded wheat or a bowl of granola.

I do have a glass of grapefruit juice before I set off from home though
