Every day! How's your cholesterol?

This is from the Daily Hate Mail so it it must be true
If you're eyeing up your breakfast options and fancy going to work on an egg, there’s no need to hold back.

For after years of telling us to shun them as an everyday food, the health police now say that eggs have become better for us.

The cholesterol content of eggs – which was previously believed to be a health risk – is now much lower compared with ten years ago, a study suggests.

Eggs also contain more vitamin D, which helps protect the bones, preventing diseases such as osteoporosis and rickets.

The reason eggs have become more nutritious over the past decade is that hens are no longer fed bone meal, which was banned in the Nineties following the BSE crisis, the researchers claim. Instead the birds are normally given a mixture of wheat, corn and high-protein formulated feed, which makes their eggs more wholesome.

The finely-milled stuff that's sold in little sachets for microwaving does - and it looks a lot like wallpaper paste, too.

Ordinary porridge oats can be cooked in the microwave too - it just takes a little longer. Add plenty of milk and nuke it for three for four minutes. Stir in home-made jam. Enjoy with an inordinately large mug of strong tea.

No, I mean normal rolled oats, wouldn't touch that microwave crap. I just don't like the gluggly quality of cooked porridge.

Hate bananas too!

gah, how can you hate bananas?! they're fantastico!
although my missus hates em too

mornflake rolled oats. cheshire oats, grown in the same weather as i live in. taste great when done as anything really, i find porridge is generally improved if you lightly toast the oats first. makes a huge diff.
just swish em round a dry non stick pan before cooking.

I am another one who doesn't eat before I ride!

In fact I tend to ride to work (between 4-7 miles depending on which route I take) and then sit at my desk until about 11.00 am before I succum to the glutten inside me!!!

When I was a smoker I always used to smoke a couple of ciggies before and after my commute though! (Even when I used to cycle to school in the 80's!!)

Right Guys, thanks for all your replies but after trying different ways i've decided to stick to having a cup of tea with a few of biscuits then having cereal an hour after i've got to work, porridge was good but it was too early in the morning for me (4:20am) to much and that was a reduced portion.

Can you define "gluggly" for me?

I like the word!
Sorry to say it was a typo (meant to be gluggy - which spell check says isn't a word either), however I guess:
glugg-ly (gl

)adj. Having the glutinous nature of 20 minute old porridge

(rhymes with ugly, I think)

OP I'm with you I have a cup of skim-milky coffee, pop another cup in a travel mug for during or after my 16 mile cycle, and have breakfast when I feel like it, usually about 10. If I don't get round to it until 11 I typically hold out until lunch and use my breakfast as a late afternoon snack.

My first choice is porridge and I have no trouble with that but in some places out here you can't get it so I have cereal if possible. One of my postings in Vietnam I couldn't get either so had instant noodles each morning and found that was OK as well. But without anything in the stomach before setting out is no good for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Option 1: Porridge, prepared the night before and left to stay warm on the range. Yummmm....

Alternatively, just let it cool and warm it up in the morning.

Porridge made mostly with water, but a little milk. Lots of sugar (for no reason, I just prefer it sweet). A pinch of salt adds to the flavour, but I have no idea whether it's good or bad, diet-wise.

Option 2: A banana and a handful of walnuts. No idea about any benefits, but it's yummy, quick and makes me feel ready for a ride.

Whichever option you choose (or any other) take on a decent amount of water. We apparently dehydrate slowly through the night and it takes a serious slug of water to get things up and singing again. Lots of people forget to drink in the morning.

My morning commute before leaving my previous workplace was 65-75 minutes through rural roads. Either of the above brekkie combos was fine for me.

I also went through about 250 ml of water on the ride, more when it was hot. Only ever water. None of your fancy-pants sport drinks for me.
