Before my 10 mile commute into London in the mornings, I'd love to say it was a healthy and protein fuelled breakfast releasing slow burning energy throughout the ride.

However in the rush its either a bowl of cereal or a banana.

Do you manage anything better?

I also have a 10 mile commute in the morning, however I have to leave far too early to get breakfast!

I don't get any ill-effects from 'running on empty' for a quick morning blast, but I'll have a bowl of special k when I get into work.

Except on Fridays though... Bacon, Sausage and Egg Toastie on Fridays. I've certainly earned it more than any of the other lazy slobs in the office!

I don't eat before I cycle to work. I'm not really a eat breakfast as soon as i get up kind of guy. So i just eat when i get to work, can do about 20 miles on an empty stomach.

I never eat breakfast normally, but couldn't contemplate riding 10 miles on emtpy - would always worry I'd burn out midway.

Trying to lose body fat so 1st thing I have some yoghurt, glass of juice and black coffee. Used to ride on empty but that may cause you to burn muscle, not fat. Usually have some fruit when I get in (and snack from the fruit bowl on my desk rather than the vending machine).

Cereal or banana actually sounds pretty good for slow release energy (even if the cereal is sugary stuff the milk should make it a fairly low GI food). Is your blood sugar crashing during the ride?

No, doing fine during the ride. I've been training for years although new to cycling. Have never done anything on empty though - think your body starts getting energy from places it shouldn't.

Surely it gets it from the food you ate for dinner the previous day?

I do 12 miles each morning without breakfast, usually just a drink of whatever and a cup of tea. I do not know if it is related to food but the journey in is always easier than the journey home.

Similar. The longer I can stay in bed of a morning the better. I can be up out and on my bike within 15 minutes of the alarm going off, then have breakfast and shower when I get to work.

I'm almost ashamed to say that it's a glass of Vimto and a cigarette before a 12.5 mile commute into Mcr. Then it's another fag, a shower and breakfast in our canteen. Seems to work though....

My commute is 18 miles and my breakfast is a bowl of cereal and a cup of tea. That's fine for me.

When I can get it I have a bowl of porridge before my commute but failing that I have cereal (whole bran flakes and fruit is my favorite). However riding to work on an empty stomach is not something I would enjoy.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

15 mile commute on a cup of coffee, then have a yoghurt bar thing at work.
If I'm doing a proper ride then I have a bowl of porridge.
