As I said Colin, I will get round to watching it.
Was the same with The Wire, left it for a bit, started watching it but couldn't get into it.
I kind of struggled with The Wire myself. (I only watched series 1.) I think one of the problems for me is that my hearing isn't brilliant and I struggled to understand what the gangstas were saying at times, which makes following the plot somewhat difficult. I might try again listening on headphones, with the volume turned up.

Surprised The Shield has not been mentioned. Definitely worth a watch if you haven't seen it.

On my second viewing of all 5 series of The Wire... i realised that it's not too important to catch every word. All you need to know is the police are mostly morons, bound by bureaucracy and governed by corrupt morons playing a numbers game, whilst the gangsters are well organised, intelligent and always one step ahead.

There's no doubt that the best three of all time are, in this order; 1. The Sopranos. 2. Breaking Bad. 3. The Wire. NYPD Blue was the best of its genre (I hate that word but it fits there) but was subsequently outpaced by the top three.

The ones I tried to get in to but never could were (are - I'm still waiting for the second one of these to strike me as a good idea), Game of Thrones (abysmal) and Homeland. Our personal PNG, the odious Steven Graham wrecked Boardwalk Empire for us and we were enjoying it until he did the world's most stupid thing and ruined it for a sizeable number of righteous people.

The Sopranos is better???!!!

..... thats it. Have watched no others.

Yes, maybe not on an individual episode basis as the colours of the New Mexico scenery (I don't know if it's dessert or desert!) are superb but for overall consistency and believability over several series, the Sopranos tip the scales for me. I'd be fairly sure you'd like the Wire.

DVD subtitles are your friend- Baltimore accent plus slang incomprehensible otherwise.
