Breaking in new tyres?

Thanks to the lovely community here I've been able to swap the concrete bricks my bike came with and upgraded to Michelin Pro 4 Service Course. I was wondering if, like tires on a car, you have to take it steady for a certain number of miles or can you just go flat out straight away?

Dunno,I've never had any problems riding "as you were" so to speak but I now use Marathon Pluses.

Nope.

My tyres for PBP went on a few days before. Then it was used for the 1230km of PBP. I think they're 'bedded in' now :okay:

Michelins do need a little care when new. The moulding agent needs to be worn off. You'll see a white deposit on the tyre once you start using them.

Be careful in the wet on the first few rides.

I'm always careful on a new pair of tyres for the first 50-100 miles, no fast corners especially if it's wet. Can't hurt to err on the side of caution!

My old Conti Gatorskins lacked full grip for the first 50 odd miles but after that they were fine althought my replacement 4000s II's were fine from day 1

Have noticed that with Lithion 2s it seems to take a couple of rides for the tyres to come good in terms of the outwards appearance (looking at a post above, it might be the moulding agent???) but I've never noticed a problem with performance.
