My Genesis Smithfield ebike came supplied with Maxxis Grifter tyres marked as 29" x 2". That's 700x50 odd in civilised units.

I had my first deflation today and was surprised how thin (and presumably fragile) the carcass is, prompting me to think about replacing them with something tougher.

The bike is used exclusively on our poor quality roads. I'm fairly relaxed about the occasional p'ture and like a smooth ride - do you have any recommendations?

If you want tough and comfortable for bad roads, get the Schwalbe Marathon Almotion. It’s the best balance of speed, puncture protection, and smooth ride.
If you want the absolute toughest, get the Continental Contact Urban. Built like a tank and handles everything.
Forget the Maxxis. Those two will sort you out.

Given the obscene balloony-ness of it all, might it be worth considering choobless?

I don't really have anything to compare them with but the cargo bike has Schwalbe Big Apples on it and they're... fine.

I use Big Apples in 26x2" for commuting and they are tough, durable and efficient for cruising on rough roads and cobbles.

Come to think of it mine are 26" so OP would have to check if they do a 29" version. I do like them, it's like riding a big comfy sofa down the street, but that's cos they, and also the bike itself, are flipping massive.

Schwalbe Marathon Plus or Big Ben are solid choices for those roads, they're practically bulletproof compared to the Grifters but still keep the ride fairly plush.

I’ve been obsessed with finding the perfect balance between comfort and durability lately, so I’ve been using Bike Tyres XYZ to compare real-world feedback.
