My Genesis Smithfield ebike came supplied with Maxxis Grifter tyres marked as 29" x 2". That's 700x50 odd in civilised units.

I had my first deflation today and was surprised how thin (and presumably fragile) the carcass is, prompting me to think about replacing them with something tougher.

The bike is used exclusively on our poor quality roads. I'm fairly relaxed about the occasional p'ture and like a smooth ride - do you have any recommendations?

If you want tough and comfortable for bad roads, get the Schwalbe Marathon Almotion. It’s the best balance of speed, puncture protection, and smooth ride.
If you want the absolute toughest, get the Continental Contact Urban. Built like a tank and handles everything.
Forget the Maxxis. Those two will sort you out.
