I'm not a fan of football, but looking from the outside, isn't it the clubs that stick with their managers in the long term that have consistent results, not the ones (Leicester City anyone) who dump the leader after a few bad results with a set of players they didn't buy in the first place.

I used to support Chelsea when I first became interested in football, which coincided with not having to play it any more.
Lots of us used to support Chelsea as the best bet for keeping Man U out of the title; now Man City perform that role, so we don't need to.

He should have stuck with Mourinho or Ancellotti or thrown some more money at Hiddinck. AVB was an expensive mistake waiting to happen and the fact that he was a dead ringer for the kid I used to bully at school is irrelevant.

I'm happy for it to be known that I'd say yes to Chelsea if they came knocking. I'm more than happy to get sacked 9 months later with a huge payoff.
+1

But ... RA might just have the sense to have the next contract written differently though, along the lines of automatic termination without compensation after the first game not won.

Never understood this philosophy. Sure, Yoonited have more or less dominated the Prem since its inception, but Fergie has built - now and in the past - teams several times over organically and sensibly (as opposed to the Nouvea Riche Society of today where a player is bought for a stupid amount of money and then immediately shipped out again). He likes native talent (as opposed to his perenialy under-achieving former-nemisis in London), and Fergie's United can do it consistently (witness anyone else, Jose had the chance but RA had other ideas). Which build version of "Fergie's United" are we now on which is keeping pace with a Man City squad that bears no realtion to itself for longer than five minutes? If anything, United are the closest thing to keeping the game at the very top as "the game". Whether you like them or not, United as a club and team do have a set of ethics.

As a football fan with absolutely no affiliation to anyone in the top flight, my desire to see United win another title has probably never been greater.

For what its worth, I'm unemployed at the moment, so I'd take a punt at the job Roman. Although, I'll propose that if you are that keen on wasting money, it'd be even better if you could just pre-sack me aswell. Just give me the pay out now, I'll be on my way, and it'll save us all 6 months worth of trouble. As well as my train ticket/bus fare up and back.

Well we're on a build which doesn't have a midfield hence AF's view that he's better off using Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes to fill it.

That said, and it chokes me as a Liverpool fan, Ferguson has managed to build several iterations of his team. Hopefully he'll retire soon and they'll drop like a stone (remember his last "retirement" anyone?).

As to Chelsea, I don't see any of what has happened being a surprise ever since RA took over. If you want the roubles to win you premierships then you kind of have to put up with the interfering megolomaniac that is spending them. There's no point crying about it now.

I don't actually think AVB was a mistake. I think the mistake was RA not backing him and just sacking players (as he has the finances to do). A new Chelsea could then have been built up around AVBs ideas. Not a sustainable way to run a football club though.

I can't wait for the day Ashley "I can't believe they only offered £55,000 a week" Cole tweets "Sh** which way is the jobcentre?"

Compare and contrast with City's owners, who backed their manager over the Tevez affair. I note he's come back with his tail between his legs...

I find the whole subject of Chelsea difficult. I ought to hate them. I really should. As a kid it was my dream for QPR to actually win something, and my other dream was that Stamford Bridge and all who sail in it would keep slipping back down to Div 4 and have to play Workington away. As a grown up, I've married in to a family of Chelsea. Not just casual fans but full on season ticket holding died in the wool will only buy Samsung electrical products fans. And I've found out that actually they don't have two heads or eat their own offspring, they are just normal lovely people with a great passion for their club. My boy who is 9 is also Chelsea. I take him to SB. So this gives me a dilemna, and I've ended up taking quite an interest in Chelsea because the happiness of so many people who mean a lot to me is bound up in their results.

So, I take little pleasure in their current misfortune. RA has got so much money he can afford to pi$$ it away but I don't see happy times ahead in the near future. The ageing members of the squad can still do a good job but they are going to need to spend some kind of money in the not too distant future to replace them as they retire. How do you replace the likes of Drogba, Terry and Fat Frank? They have an excellent training facility at Cobham, but we're yet to see the fruits of that. Where are the youth team players that should be knocking on the door of the first team? Some youngsters have been bought from abroad but Josh Mceachran is now having his party in Swansea.

Talking of Swansea, it doesn't surprise me that Brendan Rodgers has said no. He's doing ok where he is thanks. I go to the Liberty a few times a season and it's wonderful. Great stadium, full of passionate local fans watching their team play an attractive brand of football and Nathan Dyer turning left backs inside out. Swansea are good enough to stay up and I hope they do. I'm not sure that Brendan Rodgers would be that much different to AVB...an up and coming British manager as opposed to an up and coming Portuguese manager. I think Chelsea are looking for a "name". My money is on Jose going back, but I'd love to see how much money has been spent on managers between times just to get back to square one. I wish them luck anyway.

Does anyone else think Lampard missed a great opportunity against West Brom on purpose ?
Like a previous post, I will back any team that will prevent MU from winning the prem and its sad to lose a candidate in Chelsea.
Managing Chelsea must be the 2nd hardest job in English football ( after the England job ), mainly because the managers opinion is constantly undermined by RA and the usual suspects in the squad.
