Aspromised we took out two newbies on Saturday. We went over to Wetherby because the younger one lives in that area and cannot get his bike into his car.Well off we went eight miles to Knaresbrough where we stopped for breakfast. As you do ,a 45 min rest stop then a little longer way back on a disused railway track. The younger one then dropped off as we passed his home.Distance for him 14 miles. The older one late 50's can we go on ?.So off down to Thorp Arch trading estate and back.Where we had tea and scones.Total distance for him 25 miles. Both enjoyed it.Will come out again.

I think half the battle for newbies is their expectations of what things will be like....you obviosuly made an excellent impression on them.

Excellent job Postie!
Have you told them about cycling fora yet

My latest newbie-cyclist pals both rode their first 50s last weekend and well chuffed they were too. Talk of Centuries now!
It's good to see people progress.

How wonderful.I wish there were more people like you near me postman, it's getting so lonely trying to progress on my own. My hubby comes out with me now and then but amazingly I can now out ride him. Any other offers of support rides never seem to materialise. I can manage 30 miles or so now, but by the end of the year I really need to have achieved 50 miles on 2 consecutive days, and I'm wondering how I am going to manage to achieve this.

A google search for Cheshire Cycling clubs (I've been looking, as I'm moving to Haslington (nr. Crewe) soon) should throw up a few possibilities. Most of them have websites that should give you an idea of how serious they are (mostly too serious for me at my present level of fitness  )

With regards to local cycle clubs, I made enquiries back in about March when I started training and followed up a reccomendation from my local cycle specialist, but 2 attempts to make contact got no reply.

i didn't get a reply when i emailed about joining, but when i phoned the membership secretary (number was on their website) he was more than helpful and said i could go on a few runs to see how i got on etc. if you haven't tried this approach i'd recommend it.

I did post a link on your hill question thread to the relevant page of the CTC website, including phone numbers. Here is the link again.
