Why have they added in the fake lane markings on that picture?

I've heard a few reports on this recently. One of my colleagues mentioned a couple of weeks ago a person getting kicked off their bike by someone whilst she was running past and a few people checked on them. That seemed more to be intimidation as I don't think they tried to steal anything, but it does make me mindful of cycling home that way if I'm running late.

A very busy discussion about this on Bristol Cyclists' FB page - police area commander is paying attention and people are being urged to report incidents whenever they happen rather than shrug their shoulders.

... ideally by ten big blokes with cricket bats - I suspect a couple of broken arms a piece would prevent them behaving in such a needlessly horrible way.

Really saddens me that the rise of illegal e-bikes appears to have drawn gobshites to areas that were once a bastion of peace and respite for cyclists

They are illegal motorbikes and have basically replaced the minimotos and scramblers before them. This is not a new problem but the press portraying them as accursed bikes rather than cool, stylish motorbikes seems to be encouraging the police to act. Are two wrongs making a right?

Fair point, although I think ebikes are worsening this situation as they're less obvious than scramblers etc on account of their much lower noise and (usually) passing resemblance to a normal bike / legal ebike. Probably easier to obtain too as there's no ownership papertrail as you get with a registered road vehicle.

I wish the Police would do something - the amount of delivery riders ragging clearly illegal, unrestricted / throttled ebikes around Oxford is ridiculous. It's not even like they do it subtly and the excessive speed is usually compounded by a litany of other safety issues too - flagrant disregard for traffic laws, no lights...

From the speed and lack of pedalling they're easy to spot and I'd have thought an easy collar; although nobody seems to give a toss

I use it for commuting every day. These thugs were a pest last summer, you can hear 'veeeeeeee' as they come up behind you doing about 30mph+, not seen any this autumn/winter so far. What worries me is that they're the same as top end escooterists - entirely dressed in black, black machine, ninja hoods (no ID please), no lights and doing 30mph+ on what are emotorbikes. They love to pull wheelies...just waiting for one to miscalculate local gravity . The police have increased patrols on the path with the mounted division...loads more horse poo appearing.

In my commute, I am seeing more and more ebikes going past & uphill....not pedaling. Must have adjusted them illegally, I was under the impression that cadence detectors operate to ensure that the motor only works while pedaling?. A certain firm beginning with 'D' employs people with large boxes to deliver stuff and they are, by far, the worst offenders for unrestricted ebikes....and sod all roadcraft.

Nope. They can't currently legally be sold like that but use is legal, subject to assistance power and speed limits, and labelling. Few modded e-bikes comply, making them uninsured, untested, unapproved motorbikes.

This stuff is everywhere as the thugs can get places quickly - was worried about two lads ski masked up yesterday going in the opposite direction on a Sur-ron. Wouldn't have taken much for them to turn round and come back to buzz me. Very cautious after September's incident I had.

Yes indeed. I was turning right into the road leading to the start of the path last night at about 6pm, plenty of other commuters about. I shoulder checked, some lights many yards behind but room to move right. I indicated, started moving out and then... Whooosh!...the lights I saw weren't cars/bikes but two idiots racing top-end escooters. They overtook me on the right, one swerving over the dashed line. Must have been doing about 40mph. At least they had some kind of illumination but I've seen guys on these things head to toe black, ninja masks, no lights whatsoever.
