Apparently, we need one.

The guy (David Lindon) who's organising it is clearly a Viz fan, as this quote hilariously demonstrates:

“I feel embarrassed as someone who lives in the United Kingdom that we don’t have a national bird. The US has had one since 1776, while places like Sweden, Latvia, Bhutan, Jamaica, Mexico all have one and we haven’t. We’re supposed to be the national leaders when it comes to being animal lovers. It’s high time we put our money where our mouths are."

@User14044 must be devastated by the lack of egrets as an option.

My vote went to the puffin.

I hovered over the kingfisher but clicked on the blackbird. For the music.

You have to love a birder. I went puffin having fond memories of seeing them on Lundy island as a school boy

It's bloody ridiculous. We ought to be championing ecological diversity, not picking favourites. Did you hear the "debate" on the Today programme this morning? Pathetic.

I listened to the Today programme for about 15 minutes once. I felt like I was being lobotomised so haven't bothered with it since.
I know, but the alternative is cheeky cheerful breakfast DJs so we put up with it, even though it makes us both angry.
