Nah, not oldest. Not sure what the oldest is at my club, but certainly some are in their late 80s and still going strong. I'd imagine there must be a 100 year old cyclist somewhere

I have known gentlemen still cycling fit and healthy at 92 years old. It's the older generation who have lived through a World War, been very self sufficient and resourceful. Always worked and been very active. More than likely they have their own allotment. Never have they ever eaten a ready meal let alone a cheesy string .

The gentleman in question is right, when the only solution proposed is to expand yet again, you know you're not addressing the problem. Perth, and all of our cities, towns, and villages that existed before the 60's are not designed for car use.

The amount of space consumed by a car, per person is infeasible and unsustainable. To regard them as the premier means of getting around is myopic and downright stupid.

To fail to recognise the utilitarian value of the car for people getting around and the increase in quality of life of the many is ...... well you already said it, myopic and downright stupid.

Did Ron Beams make it to 100? Certainly 99. When I met him, he'd just fitted electric assist to his Trice to help him up the hills, at 93...

I had the privilege of meeting him on several occasions and he made it to 99

Unfortunately he died in April 2006, just short of the 100

Having said that the local group he cycled with had several octogenarians and at least one nonogenarian at that time

There's a guy who rides the club run most sundays. I believe he's 75-76. He's a youngster in comparison to another member who rides every now and again who is 86 years old. These guys aren't slow either. They can still keep up and take turns at the front. Respect. I hope I am as fit as them when I hit that age. Still some years to go yet though. Cycling keeps you young, providing one doesn't get knocked down .

I don't think anyone here fails to recognise the utilitarian value of the car, it is the way people use them all the time for journeys that would be far better done by other methods that people have a problem with.

They may have been years ago, certainly that is not true in the current day and age relative to other generations.

My gran was cycling still at 93 or 95, if I recall correctly. In the Netherlands though, so that's not quite so impressive as a younger person here in the UK.

1 or two years ago, I read a story in a womans weekly (Chat, Take A Break, That's Life! or similar) about a man who had been cycling every day or near enough and he was 100 years old! I don't know if he's still alive now though.
