Considering oil is heavily used in the production of plastic, rubber and steel then it's a perfect fit. Not to mention the logistics and manufacturing process

Well it's not ideal - but having grand tours that move 100s of people around a country over three weeks isn't ideal either.
I'm sure HSBC weren't exactly clean either.

What is the ethical challenge? That BC is sponsored by an oil company or just that oil companies exist? As stated above, their money works as well as anybody else’s and you don’t see Greenpeace ponying up do you?

They have entered into a partnership with a company whose interests patently and directly conflicts with those of its members.

I'm a member and used to work for them in the search for the black gold. BC job is to promote cycling not environmental policy.

It is in Shell’s interests to maximise the number of trips taken by car rather than by bike. This to me is clear contradiction with the stated objective of promoting cycling.

I'm sure Shell as a brand is fully aware of the risk of relying on fossil fuels.

They must be doing their upmost to diversify away from fossil fuels and linking with cycling perhaps is not a bad move.
