Safe Dullsville with the exception of The Verve and possibly Oasis.

Dido. FFS.
Phil Collins. Christ on a bendy bus.

Can I vote for 'Searching for the Young Soul Rebels' by Dexys

and I listened to 'Penthouse and Pavement' by Heaven 17 for the first time in decades yesterday. I didn't stop grinning for 40 minutes.

As for better albums than that list. My God, we might be here all week.

I'm afraid that I'd have to delete Phil Collins from that last - listening to a whole album of his voice is to music what being forced to eat a bucket full of boiled potatoes is to food - and replace him with any album by either the Only Ones or Eddiea and The Hot Rods.

... I'm not going to start on a "better albums than those" list, but let's just say that if I went to the shops to buy albums from the last 30 (30!!) years and came back with that load of sorry drivel, I'd never be able to look myself in the ears again.

what a terrible list! What were they thinking of? You don't have to go to the outer limits of avantegardism to find stuff which is a whole lot better. Where's Massive Attack or New Order or Radiohead or even Blur?

Yes, good point. Even if you don't like these bands, they're on a different level to the radio friendly pap that's on offer in the OP. I'm not a fan of New Order especially but I recognise that they were interesting musically in a way that Phil Collins - good drummer though he is - and Coldplay are not.

I took it to be a best of the winners thus far. None of Massive Attack, New Order or Radiohead have won best album at the Brits, although Blur did for Parklife.
