Well i'm just back from a collision with a car (my first) while i was in a cycle lane (manadatory one as well). Basically a queue of cars being held up while a car in front is waiting to turn right, me in the cycle lane. Just as i'm coming past the front of the queue, the car in front loses patience and decided he wants to get past and cuts right in front of me into the cycle lane, I just manage to swerve enough to not go over his bonnet, but my pedal makes a nasty sound down the front left side of his bodywork.

I slowed down ahead to check nothing was damaged on my bike, and was expecting him to pull over and check his car, but nope, he sped off as fast as he could. My bike was fine so i'm not particularly bothered.

Nah, I don't think it would have solved anything, and i'm pretty sure the driver has learned a lesson from the incident.

This is a familiar experience to me to! I tend to cycle in those dedicated bus lanes during rush hour on the way to work. I find that drivers waiting to pull out don't tend to look in the bus lane, or should I say only really look out for buses. Maybe Im not supposed to cycle in a bus lane, who knows! You have to be sooo alert nowadays, drivers smoking/texting/changing radio stations/messing about with there tom tom/watching DVDs etc!!!

That's a bit prole for someone so erudite Radiussimo.

My apologies, but you know, every now and again I feel I must reconnect with the current state of the waning English language, in order to have multiple dialiects at my command, should the need arise!

Besides, "Return once more!" doesn't quite have the same vernacular ring to it, does it?

A guy in a sporty jag once decided to try and push me out the way on a single lane bridge. I'd already waited for a few cars and now it was my turn...he wasn't even near the bridge when I set off (heck, he wasn't even on the same road as the bridge). Half way across and he started was coming, head into me and I wouldn't be forced to move/stop for him...so he ended up scraping his lovely jag along the high kerb on the side of the lane

I bet he remembered to wait at that bridge once he got the bill.

Glad you're okay.

those left hand lanes are really for slow speed pootling. There's one at the back of Waterloo station, which I use when the traffic is stationary, but really, really slowly
