Brompton cable replacement; do I need the official ones

When replacing Brompton cables (brakes and three speed SA gears) is there some good reason to get the official replacement parts or will any cables do? I won't do it myself but I'll get a Cytech qualified friend to do it and I need to source parts.

I can't remember any particular reason for the B specific ones except perhaps the length?
Remember to watch out when fitting that there's no space for water to get in the front brake cable where it does the 'u' turn otherwise it'll freeze in winter.
