At least in the UK we have heating and warm clothes. At short notice I changed my Africa trip and instead of doing a week in Lagos then Kinshasa I've come from Lagos to Johannesburg. Don't normally come to the southern hemisphere in their winter, I normally come in February or November. Blinkin' flip it's chilly! We're at 5500 feet, the wind is blowing in from the Highveld and everything is scorched brown by the dry cold. Hotel room has no heating and I've only got thin light clothes for tropical weather. Traveller's tummy bug I picked up yesterday is making me feel feverish and shivery.

Still, I'm going down a gold mine on The Reef tomorrow so it should be warm down there.

Since you are mechanically inclined, go out and find yourself a tub of the world's best hand cleaner. It is called Reinol and available at some (non-chain) car parts shops, hardware stores etc. If you buy it and hate it, I'll take it off you.
It is wonderful stuff ands smells like marzipan (but doesn't taste like it). I have never come across anything as good as that. Ever.

I'll see if I can pick up a nugget between my toes and smuggle it out. Otherwise it will have to be Terry's All Gold.
Why on earth would anyonyone go to Johannesburg rather than Kinshasa?
Agreed Kinshasa is by far the more colourful of the two cities but I have good business here and very little in Kin. And from here I'm going on to Durban (curry) and Cape Town (stunning city) before flying home.
