He was interviewed this evening on Jazz FM. All rather sycophantic but that's not really my point.
I appreciate I've been out of the UK for 4 years and in that time he has probably has gained a new audience but I really do find it difficult to believe it has much cross over with the Jazz FM audience. I presume they were paid as part of his forthcoming Albert Hall concert and new album promotion.
And on the subject of the album (of jazz favourites).... well, we're all entitled to our opinions but it's really not very good. Not going on what I heard anyway. A talented band and accompanying vocalists but Bruce is, well, very ordinary. And that's being kind. Let's put it this way, if it were pub karaoke you'd probably go for a pee. Or change pub. I reckon the musicians banked the cheque and were thankful for the gig.
Give the guy his dues, he's a talented cabaret/variety performer and entertainer (not that either cabaret or variety does much for me) but he's no singer. I find it difficult to imagine who thought (or thinks) it was a good idea... except perhaps his bank manager.
