Just had a BT Van pull out on me from a side road.

I managed to stop quickly and avoid being knocked off

I caught up with him and he said, "Sorry mate didn't see you".

I left it at that,

I was on left, going away from this view, van was on right hand side road and pulled right in front of me.

It's often the thick A-pillars on vans that create this blind spot for drivers. That said, the driver should be aware of the limitations of his view of other road users and move his head.

I wouldn't leave it if you were nearly knocked off, I'd report it to BT. That's the good thing about the driver being in a company van, you know where to direct the complaint.

Grass him. He's in a privileged position to be driving his employers vehicle with their name plastered up the side, and even if he doesn't care about road safety he should care about his employers image.

not really a 'cyclist down' then - perhaps this thread should be moved. If I noted all the times I nearly got hit, Shaun would have to redesign the site to cope!

I know, but near misses are so nearly cyclist down. Was a close shave.

report it. BT will find out who it was and you WILL get a call from their line manager asking how you would like it dealt with. I had one guy who didn't look and nearly offed me and I reported it to BT Fleet and I had a call and asked if he could just be educated on why cyclists ride where they do and why they do. and a donation to HEMS in london as the next cyclist might need them. the line manager agreed with all and also said that BT themselves would make a donation

Not looking isnt but not seeing can be. You are being pedantic. The guy apologised and may have learnt something. I am sure you have had at least one close miss you dont want to tell us about.
