I fit marathon supreme for winter

Nice tyre isn't it. I've got a set on my hybrid that I've run for several hundred miles and they still look like new. They roll quite decently for a heavier tyre too.

Rolling isn’t bad, the Ultra Sports IIII gain me about 1 mph. For winter outside of any major events where I want all the help I can get, the Supremes work great.

Good article, my fav quote:

"Most road tyres will last between 2,000km and 5,000km, but the good news is that cheaper tyres tend to use harder wearing rubber than speedy summer tyres - so not only do they cost less, they'll likely last you longer too!"

Sounds like a win:win. Except when you have to ride on damp, greasy, winter roads. Harder compound usually means reduced grip and ‘feel’. Whilst feel is subjective, if you can’t tell what’s going on underneath, you end up being nervous on each descent or bend.
