Hi guys,
I'm still new to Road (MTBer convertee) but looing to upgrade my current wheelset (Shimano 540 front and Alex?? rear) to something better. They currently weigh in at 0.80/1.08=1.88kg.

Where should I look for something under £70 or is it not worth upgrading until I have more £££'s?

Good brands for entry/mid level wheels. What sort of weight should I be aiming at? Do aero spokes make any differnce and what about rim depth? Deep rims look cool but are they any better?

Many thanks for any advice

A reasonably good front will be around 800g and rear circa 950g.

However the trick lies in getting those weights and still having a wheel that is both stiff and durable.

Aero spokes help a bit - as do deep (50mm) aero rims but not as much as you might think (especially if the rims are heavy).

I don't think £70 is going to be enough unless you go second hand and eBay second hand wheels are a minefield.

My preference would be to save up for a better rear wheel from a major brand (so spares are available) - search Google for the occasional great deals for single wheels. The front isn't as vital and the Shimano will do (unless you are out of the saddle going up hills all the time!).

This is still a bit overpriced and you might find an earlier model cheaper but it's a proper bit of kit.
