It's the third one in a year! They all stop working!!!

Damn them all. I use those wireless ones from the DIY centres. They are absolute crap, every single one that I've bought has died within months of me installing it.

I am seriously considering putting an old-fashioned mechanical one in, with a bell on a spring!!

Which one do you use and if it's a wireless one that's a good 'un, which brand is it?!

Er.... have you changed the batteries?

We don't have a bell, people have to knock or clack the letter box. It's a monster letter box, mind, big enough for small bike components in Jiffy bags.

I've changed ALL the flipping batteries ... while giggling like a maniac and muttering, "doesn't work! doesn't work! doesn't work!"

I am really seriously considering rigging up a mechanical system! The trouble is, I wonder how many visitors would recognise the bell-pull as being a doorbell, even if I wrote "doorbell" on it!!

Get a wired one. The one in our house is older than me, runs of a small mains powered transformer and still works perfectly.

No batteries required

Get a dog. They don't need batteries, and when you have a visitor they don't go 'ding dong', they go mental!

[/quote]Our dog is great, he can recognise my mother's car as she goes past to park. It gives us about 5 minutes to shut the curtains and pretend we are out.
