Very interesting. The cost seems quite reasonable when you consider that you get a bike, a unique experience and three days accommodation for the price. A few years back, a relative of mine was involved in designing bamboo bikes for his engineering degree.

Well, technically you get a frame, not a bike. But that said, it looks great.

There's not a great deal of bamboo in the bike in the picture. I was expecting something like a bamboo version of the Woodelo but there's barely a token amount joining the bits.

That aside, it does look like an interesting weekend.

It's in conjunction with the Bamboo bicycle club in London. I've been seriously toying with the idea of getting one of their homebuild frame kits to play with over the winter. The Bamboo forms all of the main tubes, you just need a set of forks to complete the frameset. Apparently makes for a very light and stiff frame.

The problem I found with the last bamboo bike I tried, was that it wooden go.

Other race ideas:
Unchained! Freewheel the entire distance or push the bike.
Triathlong! Same as above but you also swim with the bike.
Stealman! Steal the bike in front of the owner.
