That's where Richard Branson gets his spaceships from.
Was talking to one of the bosses at work a couple of weeks ago about this very topic. A well meaning (and obviously affluent) relative had bought his daughter just such a subscription. I think he said the final piece would be a large or full-size human skeleton model, like the ones we associate with hanging in a doctors surgery of old.
It had started well initially and the anticipation of the next piece arriving each week to be added to the correct location maintained interest for many months, but as time passed the excitement waned and dad had to step in to make sure the pieces were unpacked and placed on the part grown structure. Eventually even that stopped and the magazines continued to arrive each week, being placed to one side unopened. At the end they contacted the magazine company and cancelled the rest of the series as there really was no point in the balance of the subscription being fulfilled. I can't remember if he mentioned what the exact financial outcome was but he did say he contacted the relative to explain and apologise, I think any refunded subscription may have been donated to charity?
A shame really but I suppose the reality is that very few of these things ever get completed for one reason or another.
Damn You Auto-Correct?I remember being really excited, until my mother pointed out that to get all the parts, you would have to buy 200 copies at 7 quid each. Thanks a lot Aunt.
