My office remained like that for some months whilst I did more important things. I've recently grabbed an opportunity to do a few days of work on it. I started by making some filing cabinet drawers out of ply, lipped with a profile in oak:

The drawer fronts for these were somewhat complex, as I didn't want them to be massive, and look like filing cabinets drawers. A prepared some oak, and marked up for some sliding dovetails:

I cut those off to length, and dry fitted the drawer fronts into their opening. I then dissasembled them, and rebated for cock-beads:

Here is one drawer front, showing the 13 pieces of wood that make it up:

Cock beads (pre-stained), were glued on after being mitred:

After 3 or 4 days of re-applying my oil/ varnish mix I brought them in and screwed them onto the drawer boxes:

The only thing left to do is the cornicing:

I've managed to sneak 3 secret compartments past you lot. I considered doing another behind the cornice, but it's too akward to get to, so didn't bother.

Two jobs left: fit the drawer fronts, and make some cornices. For the cornices, I started with some oak offcuts:

I used a "round"...a moulding plane, to hollow it:

Before finishing with a scraper:

I sliced the chamfers roughly on the bandsaw:

Then planed them up, cut the mitres, and joined them for finishing:

I screwed the drawer fronts into place on the filing drawer boxes:

very nice indeed. I'm guessing one of the secret drawers is below the bookshelf on the RH side, and i'd have definitely put a small one in the monitor stand for small USB drives and the like... as for the third, no idea. You don't have to reveal them, since they're secret :secret:
