Don't fill the world up with discarded tubes - repair them! I reckon that 10 tubes would last me about 10 years or 30,000+ miles.

I did once but the of the last ones 7 of 10 got damaged by leaked oil before I used them so never again. I find I need typically less than one a year, and can't predict which size. I start at 4 of each (700 and 26"). 2 in each bike's spares bag and 2 in my spares box. When there are no more of a size in the spares box I buy 2 more.

I agree with ColinJ about wasting tubes. If a tube is repairable I mend it when I get home, put it on the test rim and if it stays inflated properly (> 80% after a month from max pressure) I treat it as new.

Also... cheap tubes can be very heavy

I'd never considered this before. On looking at the ones I have in stock they don't give any indication of weight. Are there any known 'light' brands that still offer some resistance to punctures.

Inner tubes don't resist punctures, it's the tyres outside them that are puncture resistant.

Given that there is apparently a difference in the weight of available inner tubes. I can only assume that variance is due to either a compound difference or simply a variation in the thickness of the tubes concerned. It would therefore follow that these would offer some variance in the resistance to puncturing. I understand that the tyre is the major component in the equation but surely the inner tube must be a factor if the initial premise is correct. That being said this seems to have gone a bit ot so apologies to the op.
