It's true, and he was arrested and put before the Court for making a false report and subsequently convicted. Not so funny now, but the ending never seems to be relayed with the rest of the tale.
Must be a few in courts for the same thing then.

@Julia9054 Firstly sorry for your rotten luck,it must feel awful when you get burgled. If you are considering CCTV may i suggest you have a look at this camera setup. We have the 2 camera kit in our house(one each facing the front and rear doors). It's wire free so no hassle wiring it in.All you do is plug the base station into your router via the supplied ethernet cable then press the sync button on each camera and that's it.
The batteries in the camera last ages and it records in HD and has night vision. Then just download the app or log in on your desktop and when you set it to detect movement you get an alert within seconds.
Touch wood we have never had intruders but along with some strong Solidor composite doors, locking windows, burglar alarm and internal CCTV here is hoping it never happens, but if it does i hope we catch the scrote on camera.

Seems to me the emergency services also made a false report.
I once phoned 999 to report a minor on-going crime, and asked for the Police from the 999 Operator. The Police didn't seem interested in picking up the call for a couple minutes, so I put the phone down. Five minutes later, a police car, blue light, siren , all the gear, appeared. They told me that "interrupted calls" get top priority. They thought I was being murdered or something.

Don't pull that stunt for something trivial. Pod won't like it if they rumble you.

We were broken into a number of years ago. Neighbours reacted to the alarm going off but saw nothing out of the ordinary. The scumbags returned after they went back indoors and completed their break in.

We now have the alarm monitored and CCTV. On the alarm triggering an operator listens in and challenges anyone they hear to identify themselves. If no positive ID they call the police then me. If they hear no-one I get a call anyway and can check the CCTV via my phone.

I maintain the alarm myself and get very, very few false triggers so when it does ever go off I get three or four calls from the monitoring company plus neighbours who have scoured the area.

There is never going to be a guarantee you will not be broken in to but all you can do is protect the property in the best way you can at a price point you are happy to pay.
