Returning from work today I became aware of a bus creep up behind me on approach to a roundabout. He/she hung back at a reasonable distance and allowed me to negotiate the roundabout without incident and I then took primary to stop being passed on approach to a pinch point. I had to stay wide for a bit as there were parked cars on my left and when I eventually returned to secondary the bus was prevented from passing safely by oncoming traffic. During all this time the bus kept a reasonable distance. When the bus eventually overtook it did so 2m from me at the perfect speed.

I was so gratefull and amazed that I took my right hand of the bar and gave them a thumbs up and a big grin, wobbled and nearly fell into the path of an overtaking car.

In Manchester it's a funny old world.

Bear in mind the bus company is effectively the same...

Stagecoach - in 4 years they have been outstanding - only had one idiot driver, and he got a mouthfull off me

Magicbus - questionable (Stagecoach owned and it's publically marketed as such) drivers so-so to some extent - usually driving too fast, to keep to schedule - runs the main student areas ONLY. Cram them FULL.

Finnigans/Flannigans - anyway (Stagecoach owned now) - old sh1t busses drive like loonies. Get one of these near you, oh my.

I've had some really courteous driving from First Bus drivers recently - hanging well back and waiting for ages before passing. (In fact I got such a tailback from all the courteous busses yesterday I pulled over and let everyone through...)

Only two problems in the past couple of years, one from a Stagecoach bus and one from a Thamesdown bus, both companies were excellent in dealing with it.

A contributing factor to driver improvement maybe the existence of cctv camera's on the buses, the Thamesdown complaint was dealt without the need for my video evidence as they used the video recorded by the bus.

I think it was Arriva that hit me yesterday by squeezing in to the cycle lane, just a shoulder brush, and said I had strayed out of the cycle lane and hit him.
