Not exactly:

"I would be on the footpath, even if it meant pushing the bike for that stretch."

It's a long bridge, I suspect most people would ride along the pedestrian path, if they chose not to ride on the road.

Anyway, this is not the real issue - it's crap driving that caused the problem.

Local PC on standard hybrid issue "Beat Bicycle" came across an erratic driver who drove off. PC chased him down on the bike and arrested him...... when backup arrive, tthe driver was breathalyzed and later charged with drink driving

ive just had a vision of a policeman riding down the road on his bike yelling nenaw nenaw as loud as he could.

I think our policemen do have sirens on their bicycles. They use bicycles for policing the trails and adjunct areas. Here they are in action, nabbing a fleeing cyclist, and issuing a ticket. No sirens, though.

Seen this before. There's actually a sign instructing bikes to take the lane and warning cars that they are allowed to do so.
