Pies, pies & more pies - could it be that I'm missing out on some life enhancing experience? Wonder if Sustrans do a pie route...........
It seems that I'm living in a golden zone for pies and didn't know it. The thought of pork & apple pies are enough to make a vegetarian (not me) salivate?

Is So Low a sausage dog?

You need to get out and about within easy cycling distance from York - there's a good butchers in Pocklington, WF Burton
At Easingwold it's possible to source Voakes pies made in nearby Whixley.

There's a couple of ride/pootles sorted for you.

In Parliament Street, York there are frequent International & Yorkshire Food Festivals. I shall pay closer attention to what's on offer next time.

Have you ever been to the Knavesmire Butchers? Albemarle Road, Southbank.

http://maps.google.c...=12,157.06,,0,0

Their steak pies are really good. Packed with steak, I'm always amazed that the pasty doesn't snap under the strain...

I haven't been to the Knavesmire Butchers but I know the area ( my wife used to teach at The Mount). I'm hardly a connoisseur of pies but some of the "posts" are mouthwateringly seductive so I'm just making a few mental notes should I happen to end up scraping my pedals along the kerb in front of some of these establishments.

Thanks for that.

Well, I can honestly say that the pork and apple pies are fantastic. :bravo: :bravo: :bravo:

I bought some pork pies as well but not tried one yet.

I currently have some pork and pork/leek.chilli sausages cooking under the grill, and they smell delicious.

Thanks for the recommendation Vernon :becool:
Had a good chat with the owner as well. Nice bloke.

The sausages are just as good as the pies. The Pork ones are excellent, and the Pork, and Leek and chilli ones are even better - love the sweetness of the leek and the nice warmth of the chilli coming through.

And the pok pies are fantastic, made even better by the addition of some nice Plum chutney.

I can see me visiting again next time I am there....and he mentioned he was starting a webpage order service in the nearish future

Glad to be of service. The chap's wares are wonderful.

I've just talked myself into a visit - I fancy some of his black pudding and will be buying some for personal consumption and some as a present for a colleague.

Looks like I'll be adding some of his sausage to my shopping list.

The black pudding looked lovely but I resisted the temptation this time, but next visit will add some to my order.

I had more sausages this morning for breakfast with the plum chutney I picked up to have with the pork pies, and it went really well with the sausages as well.

I am saving the bacon for tomorrow's breakfast.

If you pay a visit today, he might look a bit tired as he was saying he was working til 10.30pm last night at a Hog Roast, and then up early today to get things prepared...the joy of self employment!

Edit - and Solo loved the pork sausages as well, he got some last night and again this morning as a treat :becool:

Never got around to getting to Boroughbridge.

I'll be making a steak and kidney birthday pie for a colleague today.

I'll be making a spare one for me
