Hydrogenated vegetable fat, aka marge or spread, is indeed the work of the Devil and has a tendecy to accumulate inside the body cavities as visceral fat. Butter OTOH is a 100% natural product that gives energy and probably vitamins and minerals and was eaten for centuries before marge was invented. Look at any movie or TV programme made before about 1980 and you'll see that most people are thin, despite eating butter.

Yes that's right, because Margarine is single handedly responsible for people being fat post 1980!!:giggle:

Everything in moderation I say!

That's not what I heard.

I'm sure you write with tongue in cheek but hydrogenated vegetable fat is one of the world's big cheap commodities, sold in shiploads along with carbohydrate, sugar and water, all of which are the major ingredients in industrial food and drink, over-consumption of which is responsible for the fat epidemic.

I know that, it was just the way you put it though!

Just some minor chemistry pedantry....
Partially hydrogenated fat is the issue due to the formation of trans-fats. Fully hydrogenated fat contains virtually no trans fats. Butter still contains some trans fats albeit at a very low level prolly cos cows hydrogenate better than chemists ;-)
