Probably just another case of shrinkflation where the price stays the same, but the pack size reduces. Some butters such as Anchor are down to 200 grams from 250 grams.

IME pretty much everything's been battered down to 200g; last man standing was Kerrygold at 250g. It's a bit cheaper if you buy the 500g block (again, fair play to them for offering something larger / better value) although this can be a bit of a swine to store...

You can freeze butter. I cut mine in half and freeze the half I'm not using.

Thanks - it's more of a shape problem as there's apparently no easy way to cut the bigger blocks in half so that they fit into a butter dish designed for the 250g size..

As it stands I don't personally eat butter at all (but still buy it for the old dear) however if I inevitably get back on the flapjacks over winter I suspect using it up in time won't be an issue

Definitely shrinkflation. A number of shops now only sell certain products in sample sizes. For example: Marmite, Coleman's mustard powder, wine (in 6- as opposed to 12-packs), Battenberg cakes, kippers, tinned grapefruit and so on. At least on line one can still get 500g+ packs of mustard powder and 500g Marmites — but I have not seen a 1kg Marmite in over 10 years. Where are the litre tins of grapefruit? It is not caviar, or so I thought.😵‍💫

Hadn't noticed, although i tend to get supermarket-brands. Eg the current one is Tesco lightly salted is 250g.

I only use real butter for cooking. For sarnies, I've switched to spreadable, which is sold in 500g tubs.

Well, the final vestiges of faith in humanity have been torched - noticed earlier that Kerrygold have gone to 200g packets now too... on top of that the cost of the 500g pack has gone up to £6 - which IIRC puts it at the same price per unit mass as the old 250g... the 200g is £2.75

As already mentioned, Tesco own brand is 250g (and £1.99) and M&S own brand also 250g/£2, but this is rarely on the shelves.

Based on my weight I probably should be freezing half packs of butter, but then I’d only be living half a life
