Bet you never saw many others? I think I've seen another pave maybe 5 times in 5 years! @gbs of this parish has one I believe, don't know of another on CC

No I don't remember seeing any other ones

Here's the bike, we're pictured on a forum ride.

I would.

You'd be surprized how many frames for some of the major bicycle companies are made in the same factories in China and Taiwan (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinesis_Industry). And really, after the frame, you're just left with the usual suspects for components (ie usually Shimano/SRAM for shifters and derailleurs, the same tyre manufacturers, rim manufacturers, etc).

So definitely caveat emptor, but so long as you do your homework and have a reasonable idea the frame isn't terrible and the components are reasonable, I wouldn't have a problem at all*.

*OK thinking about this a bit further, maybe I would. If I was buying a very high end bike with a cf or some other luxurious frame material, then I'd probably stick to a well known manufacturer based on support and warranty stuff -though that also doesn't necessarily guarantee a form of protection either admittedly. Also, if there was something about the bike that is unique in terms of function and design (e.g. if you say wanted something similar to Giant's Maestro suspension design) then I'd be wary of putting down money just based on their claims as I'd assume little to no consumer reviews, So, maybe the caveat here is yes for simple traditional designs with traditional materials that aren't excessively spendy!

Yes, it is true. I do own a Pearson Pave (vintage 2009). Nowadays, my son now rides it down in Hampshire. This gave me a good reason to replace the Pave with tthe 2016 equivalent - the Pearson Hammer and Tongs. I do not thonk that obscure is the right word to describe Pearson; they trade through two shops where you you will frequently see the two principals, Guy and Will Pearson.

Nowt wrong with Specialized, you would love my black Sirrus

It's funny to think of Genesis as mainstream, before I bought my Volant ( about 3yrs ago) I'd not heard of them and I've only come across one other in that time so it's all relative, I suppose!

You take a chance on an informed choice, or as informed as you can be

Companies have to start somewhere

When I bought my first trike it was from a guy operating at home and frames welded by a sixth formers

ICE have come a long way, and there is some satisfaction in being an "early adopter" when a design / company makes it

Obscure bikes and makers are quite trendy these days, if that isn't an oxymoron? A friend's just taken delivery of a Temple Cycles bike which he bought when they had a pop up shop in Cheltenham (Temple are from Bristol). It's a fairly straightforward cromo frame with a powder-coated finish.
I would've preferred a nice 80's 531 frame myself - he's actually got a lovely 80's Raleigh Royal which I think is much nicer, both to ride and in finish, and it was an awful lot cheaper too!
