I saw my local Halfords had a nice looking bike for sale spares/repair. No chain or rear deraileur. Anyone had any experience buying such, are they a reasonable deal if you're reasonably competent at fixing a bike?

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
If that was ALL wrong with it, and the price was right it could be a good deal.

Rear hanger ok?, has it been crashed ?
I'd want to know why its not been repaired, trade in seems an acceptable reason but factor in a chain, RD and possible cassette and hanger, you're looking at a moderately expensive fix if you buy new parts.

In many ways my thoughts, I was wondering if it had been cannibalised.

My local Halfords recently had a frame and forks plus a few other bits for sale (Boardman), my guess is a bike was used for warranty repair and then they were selling the rest but did not ask
