Have an old laptop with a jammed 'k' No problkem just clean it but still no good. Connected up external keyboard but it looks like there is a short in the flexicircuit as still a problem even with the entire rubber mat removed. Sure. You have to use the ALT key and the numeric keypad (which on laptops without a separate numerical keypad is shown in different colours shared with other alphabetic keys, and it is generally activated by pressing the Fn key in the same colour).
K can be typed by pressing ALT and Fn together using one hand while typing 075 on the numeric keypad with the other hand. k can be done the same way by replacing 075 with 107.
On my keyboard the 2 of the numeric keypad is shared with the K key. Since 2 is not in the code for K or k you are probably ok!
The codes for different keys (look up the decimal table at the end) are here http://www.december.com/html/spec/ascii.html
You can do other things too with key combinations per http://www.pcdon.com/page3.html

lol my laptop keyboard is the same after my 3yr old decided it need a wash, what i did with mine was to wash it with alcohol (plenty at work) then compressed air to blow it out followed by the Alex Ferguesson treatment 
Its not perfect but I`m hoping through time that the n,m and k keys sort themselves out. The problem with removing the keyboard on mine is that the power on buttons is on the same part.
