Obviously cable rub isn't a problem specific to folding bikes, but the folding process means that more cable rubs against more of the frame than on a non-folding bike.
I've never had much success with patches stuck to frames so I use the spiral cut frame protectors on normal bikes ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fibrax-Sp...hash=item35f26f5f9e:m:maQNrVxvhHmGaelhQirz70g ),but the length required would make these impractical on the Brompton.
So, a bit of Googling later I found this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-Metre-S...Hot/162022955706?_trksid=p2485497.m4902.l9144
As far as I can see it's made from the same material as the Fibrax protectors. Using 4mm I.D. for the gear cables and 5mm I.D. for the brakes (both 1mm wall thickness), a Stanley knife and a bit of patience produced this result:
It could be tidier (I need to work out a way of slitting the hose neatly), but I'm reasonably happy with the result. I suppose the best solution would be to install the hose without slitting it, but this would mean removing all the cables from the bike.
