Hi All

Being a new returning biker and now seriously getting into it can anyone explain the whys and wherefores of monitoring ones cadence when riding. And as a mountain biker is it of much relevance to me.

Regard and happy cycling.

The bumpier the surface, the less comfortable spinning is.

  1. You can focus on this to either improve your efficiency, mix up workouts (i.e. spend the session on high cadence which works your cardio more), or to stop grinding the gears - maybe you have bad knees or an injury for example.
  2. Only you will genuinely answer this one. I used cadence to take a look at my riding pace, and on long rides or tired phases it helps. Do you need it - most people don't.
