Silicone grease on the seals and stretch waterproof insulating tape round the join.
They work underwater with just the silicone grease!

(After the canal incident - which was almost worth the cost to see people gazing into the water looking at the flashing light - I tried it with all the rest in a washing up bowl)

All the LED's should be on.

Send it back and buy something else. Got 4 or 5 Superflashes (1/2 watts) and they are only any use in the dry - so are used for things like the Family Blackpool Ride the Lights - I've given up with them for commuting. They pack in with the slightest moisture. Then need drying out on the radiator.

The superflashes are just fine in the heavy rain, mounted on a beam rack with no mudguards, right in the target area for all the road spray

You just need this - http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/displayProduct.jsp?sku=1774260&CMP=e-2072-00001000&gross_price=true

It works a treat, never had any issues with water ingress since giving it a quick smear

Yeah but the tape also stops the lens half falling off, which is very useful especially for those lights where all the weight is in the outboard half.
Never had that problem but I suppose it could happen.

The only issue I've ever had with the Smart back lights id the clips that go onto the mounts breaking off. Of my 6 lights it's happened twice and one of the two is still presumably in the canal, while the other got modified to a bolt-on fitting. You can't tape over that because of the need to take 'em off to stop the toe-rags pinching them. Solutions please.

I've just checked my two and only the central LED is on when on constant. But it makes no difference - the central LED is so much brighter that you would barely notice the two sides ones anyway. The two side ones are there just to provide a pretty effect when in flashing mode (and so that there's something there when the main LED is momentarily off).

sounds like a number of people have them with only the centre LED on in constant mode. Anyway, Wiggle told me all 3 should be on so I sent it back - will see what I get next! Perhaps that is a newer design, as the two smaller LEDs probably don't do much apart from drain the batt

Maybe, or maybe there's confusion between the Smart 1/2 watt and others in the Smart range. They sell a fair variety of very similar lights.

Norm makes a good point point

On my one of these (the kidney shaped one if the link is not working) only the centre bulb lights up

Whereas on the one that looks like the rear of this set (vertical with switch on the bottom)...

...I have no idea as the switch is knackered after the Wetstable run;)

I'm talking about the one in the top link. I have a few of the other ones as well and they only have a single LED anyway.

I have some of those, and some of the vertical style. There are at least two different flash patterns on the vertical ones, my guess is change of model year...
I don't see that it makes any odds either way.
In fact so little difference that I CBA to go to the garage to see if the side LEDs are lit on mine when steady or not.

They all get a quick smear of grease on receipt and I've never had a water ingress problem.
Had on drop off saddlebag loop and scatter it's parts over the road, but found to be still working when re-assembled.
