I have a little nodule of skin on my shoulder which is gradually (very) increasing in size and she reckons it's standard practice to tie a piece of thread round it very tightly until it withers on the vine.
I'm a bit sceptical - wadddya think?

How big is the nodule and does it have a narrow neck ? If it's small and has a narrow neck it is possible to put thread around it, pull it tight quickly and it should come off. But if it resembles a mole don't touch it, go and see your GP. Only take it off if it looks like a skin tag (google it).

It works when you do it on horses...takes about 10 days.

They do a sort of similar thing to lambs, not sure how long that takes though.

I'd go to the docs before attempting home surgery.

I remember reading in the BMJ about a sheep farmer who castrated his lambs by tying bind-a-twine around their scrotoms. At some point he developed a fluid filled swelling in his scrotom, so not liking to bother his GP he tied a piece of twine around the swelling......there was a picture with the article of his necrotic scrotom.

Perhaps it's best if you go to the docs.

It's about 3mm long and 1 to 2mm wide. It's a little wobbly thing and no use to man nor beast - ooh er missus.
I might try the whisky option without the thread, Wigsie:biggrin:

Play safe and see the GP.

Alternatively, live dangerously and attack it with some electronic cutters. The flush-cutting versions, such as this, are extremely good for DIY surgery ...

BTW, all manner of electronic tools can be pressed into service for DIY body maintenance. Without going into details, I once polished off a verruca with a fine tip soldering iron.

The very best part of all this DIY surgery stuff is that drinking alcohol is positively encouraged by the anaesthetist, and the patient and surgeon all join the party. You don't get that on the NHS.

As long as it's a skin tag(it sounds like it is) and not a brown mole you should be ok. Took a tag of my neck that way.
Used what I call a "Winders Knot" that's like a double loop with the two ends of the thread going underneath each other - so it tightens and doesn't loosen. Two days later it fell off in the shower no blood and never came back. Good luck!

pair of sharp nail clippers ... a quick snip ... a little shout of "Ouch ya F@#*er" ... dab of TCP ... down a few whiskeys to stop the shaking ... simples!

Then a broad smile as your Mrs recovers from passing out at the sight of blood

That's what she said but I'm a bit of a wimp. The vanity thing is that I don't want to one of those old blokes with dangly bits and warts all over the place!

I may go for it.

I get rid of my occasional skin tag that way. You could also try Wartner, a cryo product that will freeze it off more quickly than the tie-off option. It burns like crazy but it's a lot more convenient. You can buy it at any good chemists.

I noticed a funny area on the skin on my face a couple of years ago... went to the doc (thinking skin cancer etc) and he said it's the facial version of one of those dangly things older men get on their shoulders (ie a skin tag). He said it's a quick job in the surgery to freeze it off... I don't need it doing yet, but presumably your doc can do yours in the same way... lessen risk of infection, screaming, structural damage to house and so on...
