I was down in Cambridge today for the first time and wow what a lot of bikes! There was a lot of pavement and other silly cyclists (trying to squeeze up the side of buses) but they were in the minority it was just that there was that much of everybody; it was probably less than 1% of thousands. Although there was tons of bike parking, it wasn't enough and you regularly passed abandoned bikes with wheels locked to the frame only because there was no space. I seen a few heavy hybrids with tri bars and other cycling contraptions, and although some looked like they might fall apart but they were still moving, then came the bloke cycling with a massive Tuba. Yet for all these cyclists I don't think I saw any lycra, helmets and hivis were in the minority (maybe 1 in 10) presenting the image that I like, cycling is a mainstream activity :becool:

Did you see my son? He's the student ... black eye ... accident (?) in a night club...... rides a Giant MTB ..... no brakes .... rusty chain ...... permanent hangover.
I'm afraid you'll have to narrow it down a lot more than that, RM.

That's what happens when you have a huge student population spread out across a small city. Too far to walk, to expensive to run a car & without any parking. Solution - bikes.. 1000s of them.

Problem is even though a small % of people are doing silly things they're large in number & so everyone is like that. Also add in the city council seems to be hell bent on making 1 or 2 roads the only way to navigate across the city by car & you have a high motorist frustration level.

I'm afraid you'll have to narrow it down a lot more than that, RM.
Well he's got it down to about 1/4 of the cycling population of Cambridge city... it's a start.

The traffic in Cambridge is permanently chocca and seems to be getting worse - Look at the roads in the vacinity of the Grafton Centre, for example. Much quicker and easier to cycle or walk if you can.
