No they're not, unless Mrs P has contractually agreed to such an intrusion.

Presumably they've some internal regulation about tracking vehicles used for legitimate personal purposes outside of work hours?

I have a tracker in my company car. I use the data to work out which were private miles and which were company miles. My boss can/does use it to see where I've been. This was made clear to me when I took the job. What is slightly less clear and I'm not so happy about is the password for the web interface on the tracking company's website is known/available to other people in the office who don't have any business knowing where I am.

There should be a way to switch the system off for private use. The one company I worked for that had trackers used a dongle which had to be used for all work travel but we just unplugged it in the evening.

Almost certainly in breach of the company's IT security policy. Which makes me wonder what other policies, regulations and laws are being casually broken in that sort of workplace....
Does anyone have any knowledge of this? The company Mrs P works for is fitting cameras and trackers in all works vehicles. That's fine, it's their property. But I'm interested in the vehicles with permitted personal use. Are there any regulations? Is your employer allowed to know exactly where you've been when you're out of work driving your "benefit" car? Anyone have any thoughts?
If the driver freely consents to be tracked the employer may track away to their hearts content. Telematics best practise suggests a private button is fitted. About the only regs that apply are Human Rights Act "right to privacy" and Data Protection.

I've got a tracker in my works van, which is strictly prohibited for personal use. We were told they were fitted for our protection, in case of collisions etc. Within a week of it being fitted I received a phone call from a manager asking why I had been recorded driving at 80+ mph in a 20 zone? The road in question has speed bumps the size of beached whales its entire length, three schools on it and permanently double parked cars.
When I proved the data was nonsense, I asked about my legal position if I had hit another vehicle or worse a pedestrian and the tracker evidence said I was doing 80? Have never received an answer. The same system regularly throws up data that our vans do close to 100mph around the Pier Head area of Liverpool. I presume if one of us was involved in a RTA the evidence would show that the van was obviously not travelling at those sort of speeds, but it gives me an uneasy feeling knowing I have been recorded committing an offence that I could be jailed for. Nice to know the trackers sitting there protecting me though!
Not really protecting you if it's not recording correctly.

Do you know the name of the system?
Isotrak and Microlise are the ones I've been involved with.
Microlise has a driver facing camera on the console. Isotrak doesn't (at least, mine didn't)
