can anyone tell me what ultra drive eps on a 10 speed chorus chainset stands for, as in will it function on a normal 10 speed set up, I'm thinking that eps maybe stands for something electronic and is it a good chainset in alloy
thanks

EPS is indeed Campag's electronic shift system, Chorus is a high end groupset. You can use it with a mechanical set up no problems.

Yes.
But it's 10 speed 2008 ESP - someone else (the seller's) typoing (I'm guessing):
ESP (Enhanced Shifting Performance) Actuation System is a system that was specially developed by Campagnolo to improve the shifting synchronism. Thanks to the special design of the gears, now there are two specialised sectors for upshifting, diametrically opposed, and two sectors for downshifting, also diametrically opposed. (Comment: Have no idea what that means!)

Sounds like you have an early 2000's square taper Chorus chainset with UD ESP chainrings - not a bad bit of kit if the chainrings are lightly used.

Later Chorus models went to the UT system (oversized bearings on the BB) which IMHO is a lot better than square taper(although others will differ) and to Carbon construction (slight weight saving - not really worth it TBH).

I think it just means the chainrings have 'shifting pins' on them. (instead of just plain rings)

  • All 10s Campagnolo middle and outer chainrings use steel chain pick up pins and have precisely machined teeth. Chain pick up pins are only used on middle (for triple cranks) and outer rings. They help to lift your chain when you are shifting from a smaller ring into a bigger ring. Note in the photo below how the teeth above the pick up pins are profiled to further assist in up shifting.

it's definately eps on it though not esp
You've seen the chainset with Ultradrive EPS 'written' on it? Just checking, because iirc Chorus has been 11 speed for longer than EPS has been out.
Edit after @winjim 's post: I've now found a Record Ultradrive EPS from that era. Anyway the 'e' doesn't stand for electronic, in this context.

It really does say EPS! That's a 2004 - 2006 Chorus crankset. Ultradrive and EPS are just silly names that Campagnolo use to describe the pins and ramps on the chainset which aid shifting. If you want to use it you will probably need a Campagnolo bottom bracket as the taper I think is different compared to Shimano's for example.

Yes it's all campagnolo
From a quick read of the tech specs in the catalogues, I think the carbon Chorus 10sp cranksets use a 102mm bottom bracket, whereas the Daytona used a 111mm. So you might need a new BB. These are readily available though.
