i go out with a group and i am the only campag rider - and i really love tucking in and free wheeling when they are working hard just so they can hear the sound of laid back coasting - irritates the hell out of them

Shimano or SRAM are winners.

I had Campag on a a bike I built up a few years ago and it's just so clunky, in comparison. And you need 'special' tools!

My Shimano levers and rear changer have done 70,000 miles over nine years, and still work beautifully. The front changer froze and I replaced it seven years ago, and the replacement still works like a dream.

They both play their customers for fools in their pricing structure and the annual cosmetic alterations.

Some people are born mugs - me included.

No, you need standard tools and special ones for Shimano. But seeing as you need a new special tool for every new piece of equipment that comes out these days, it doesn't matter.

And I like the noise my Campag freewheel makes, as I know everyone else I ride with does

There's a lot to be said for noisy freehubs, don't get me wrong. Although I have a 'slightly lairy' one on my Planet X A57, Shimano splined wheels and also on my Aksiums, again Shimano splined

Fair comment on the tools thing, I s'pose

Here for rides.
I've got SRAM, Sturmey-Archer, Campagnolo, and Shimano on my bikes.

I twist, push, flick, click or back pedal as appropriate and the bike changes gear.

Beyond that how much can I care? I ain't racing so how fast the shift is doesn't really matter to me.

As for feel? Well, I like the clunk of Veloce, I like the snick of Shimano, I like the swish of SRAM and the tick of Sturmey.
