Coloured pencils, pens or crayons?

An elderly lady from the village has been in hospital for weeks. I'm hoping to visit her soon & naturally want to take something with me. I know she's bored and frustrated but her eyesight is poor and she can't read. When I was in her house at Christmas I noticed that someone had bought her a colouring book. I spotted one in a charity shop today & snapped it up for her. The question is what would be best to use for the colouring? I'm concerned that she won't be able to sharpen pencils if she needs to. But the nursing staff might not be pleased if felt-tipped pens mark the bed linen. Wax crayons seem a bit childish.

Water based felt tips? I think some of the kids ones are designed to be washoutable?

B&M do have lots of 'aquamarker' type pens in lots of different colours at reasonable prices. I presume that they wash out since they are water-based and designed for children.

If you do go with pencils, it will be a while before any of them need sharpening and the staff could do it for her.

As above. Felt tips are best for colouring books.
Some of the adult colouring books are very detailed which may not be ideal for poor eyesight.

Ask her - or someone she knows well - if you can
if not pencils might be best - and add in a sharpener that has its own container for the sharpenings

You don't have to break the bank.

Paper can have a bearing on what will work, if it's super thin, pens will bleed through. Also if it's coated in any way, may as well bin it and try the above options for a replacement.

Thanks all. I'll see what I can find. We're not well served with shops here so it'll have to be somewhere near the hospital - assuming that I can confirm where she is. She's more & more confused every time I speak to her and hasn't a clue where she is

Well, I've pushed the boat out and bought pens and pencils (with a sharpener in the pack).
