A small group of us are taking a break to do the WoR later this year. I was speaking with a couple of guys who did it last year and they said that the camp sites are ripping off cyclists by charging extra for only staying only one night, effectively charging double. Has this happened to anyone on here? another thing that was said was that many sites operate a no single sex groups policy. I can understand the thinking behind this but the youngest in our group is 56 and the rest of us are senior citizens so we are unlikely to cause a disturbance unless snoring is banned too.
We are planning to take 4 days and would welcome any recommendations of sites

Why tell them you are a same-sex group? Just say that you're grown ups. We didn't get charged extra for one night stays; the sites were empty. We stayed at:

Night 1: Basic campsite behind the Helwith Bridge Inn, near Settle: http://www.helwithbridgeinn.co.uk/
Night 2: Manor House Farm Caravan park, near Summerbridge. Lovely, but a longish walk to the pub via stepping stones. http://www.manorhousecaravans.co.uk/about/
Night 3: York Marine Services campsite, Bishopthorpe, York. Good showers and nice pub nearby. http://www.yorkmarine.co.uk/contact-us/
Night 4: Fountain Farm Caravan site, Watton, near Driffield: http://www.fountainfarmcaravansite.co.uk/ pub was a bit of a drive away.

Nice cafe and meditation at this Buddhist centre near Pocklington: http://www.madhyamaka.org/

I strongly recommend the route that takes the beautiful folded valley to the east of Millington, this was the high spot of the ride for me, I was fascinated by the carved wooden posts.

I'd second that. It's one of my regular rides and is a beautiful part of the country. There's also a rather good cyclist friendly cafe in Millington. I can recommend the scrambled eggs on toast.
