Thanks folks for the replies! Yes this just a quick hack that maybe useful to somebody! Winter boots are the real fix, but a bit on the expensive side!! Also know a long distance rider who has electrically heated insoles in his boots with an app on his phone to control them, life can be weirder than we can imagine sometimes.....
I wear mine alot, and it's the one thing I don't mind spending on. Keep an eye on
ebay. Plenty of hardly used ones on there. That's how I picked up my second pair of MW7's that retail north of £160, for about £60. No sole wear (very obvious sign of use), and a small nick in the side which I glued.
I use mine a lot when commuting - especially when rain is forecast. Mountain biking or on the CX bike, then it's most of the year with the mud and puddles. My only regret has not been buying some earlier in the 40 years I've been cycling. Possibly been using them 10 years now (pretty sure I got them after my bad accident as I spent alot of time off road riding then).
And, cycling shoes last well, so not expensive, say vs a pair of walking shoes.
