Mine has just given up the ghost after 7 years hard labour (Hoovering is my job)

I think id prefere a pull along one rather than an upright.

I love my Electrolux Powerplus 1800 watt it was only about £36.00 and I tell you it sucks my carpet clean off the floor it is so powerful. It has a power adjuster and is very lightweight and compact.

Henrys are the bomb. you can hoover up rubble with the things and they still keep going.

Yip.

We had a Hoover brand one, which snapped in half, followed by a Dyson. The Dyson was the biggest heap of crap on earth! So many things broke, blocked and went wrong with it.

I realized that we'd had a Henry at work for fifteen years not out! Long ago we stopped bothering putting a bag in it and used it to suck up anything that would go down the tube. Nothing phased it.

So we got one for the house. My wife wasn't too pleased as it doesn't do carpet too well but checking out their website I found that Numatic do a carpet attachment! This is a vacuum-powered rotating brush head for Henry and with this in place he's unbeatable.

The success of Henry is that it's so simple. Just a big fan sitting on top of the bin, there's nothing to go wrong. We know have two of them at work as the original was thought to be too grubby for the office. Too grubby but after twenty-years still working perfectly! Just make sure you get the carpet attachment if you have carpets.

+1 on Henry (or Henrietta, the pink one in our case). I had the carpet washing wet/dry green one before I got married, Mrs.P for some reason lost in the mists of time didn't like it and insisted on getting a new one. After a few different brands, most lasting around 3 year we now have the Henrietta.
The other one still lives in the garage and used without a bag, as above and sucks up anything, as above.
Simple and reliable machine.

ps. I just remember why it was banished to the garage. The handle was broken

After a number of Dysons, the last of which was so loud it made your ears hurt when using it we just invested in a a Sebo Felix. I have to say that it is just brill, relatively quiet and really great picking up the dirt. It came with two heads; one for hard floors and the other has a powered brush for the carpets. It looks pretty retro and seems to be well made. It has a five year guarantee.

not sure it is an industrial cleaner like the Henry but we think its the best we've had in 20 years of domestic bliss.

I am happy to say I know nowt about domestic stuff but would like to say how interesting it is that a manufacturer's name has become a description of the action of it's product.

We've had an upright Dyson for about 12 years. Can't get it to break. Which Mrs P is very frustrated about because she wants a pull-along Miele.

You really can't beat Miele. They're great.

 Expensive but they last and they are neat. Go to the dump and see all the Dysons lined up in the totters who bribe the operatives scrap corner recycling 'domestic items' bit...

Ferry interesting! I wondered why they were so on the ball now when they can't empty my bins properly. I make you right on that one mate.

Yes, apparently in fact they are not really broken at all just need a bit of normal maintenance beyond the skill of many.

If getting a Dyson, make sure you take out an extended guarantee - ours has had most bits replaced once or twice.......over the last 5 years..

they come with a five year standard guarantee i think we've had lots of bits replaced as well, it was simply the noise that we couldn't put up with any more!

We've a Dyson and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It was a very expensive top of the range vacuum and quite honestly, unless you're prepared to spend as much time cleaning the vacuum as you do cleaning the carpets, then the suction is rubbish. Very disappointing indeed .
