Can anyone recommend a mains operated shaver?

It doesn’t matter whether it has a rechargeable battery or not just so long as it can be powered by the mains cable regardless of the state of the battery.

My Phillips 3 head one will run off the mains if the battery is flat. I have a battery one and a mains, but the battery one certainly runs off the mains as I forget to charge it occasionally.

You can still find Remington R3 online in some places.

I prefer to wet shaven but do use an electric shaver for convenience a lot of the time.

Over the years, I've had countless rechargeable shavers give up the ghost. I bought the mains only Remington R3 and have been very happy with it. Does what it says on the tin. It's much easier to clean than a Phillips.

I believe there is a rechargeable version of the R3 too, so watch watch what you order.

Why bother with electric shavers. They are unreliable and cost too much for how they perform. Just get tried and tested by yourself disposable blades, costing a few quid. I shave every day and get a smooth result, using a Bic 'comfort' razor, costing about £1.50 for 10 disposable razors.

Electric shavers. I worked with a Jew once and he told me that the reason Orthodox Jews had beards was that there was a sacred spot on their face somewhere and shaving with a blade razor would defile themselves. MY workmate was clean shaven and said his not so Orthodox community considered an electric shaver would not breach the belief.

Far less faff with electric. Yes you don't get a close shave buy I have to shave every day. My Phillips is easy enough to clean under water. You just need to open each head and rinse as 'bits' can get under the 'pivot' and reduce the closeness of the cut. Just convenience. I also get a rash with normal blades, but that's the same with someone who switches from blades to electric.

This thread is one about a mains useable shaver.

I should have mentioned that I'm looking for a foil shaver rather than rotary.

I've not yet managed to find a single shaver still available in the UK that works directly from mains.

OP: I have a specific question about Thing A
Poster: I don't like Thing A. Let's talk about Thing B instead.

That could be a great thread.

Ask a very specific question and invite the most tenuous answers - with the proviso that there must be at least a tiny bit of relevance to the question.

Like when I asked a question about whether bikes could be taken on one specific train service. No one had a clue about what I was asking, but it didn't stop some people from getting absolutely furious telling me that I should be going somewhere else, I should by cycling instead of taking the train, I was travelling on the wrong day and so on.
