Looking at getting a 105 non disc brake bike on cycle to work scheme.... can anything beat the giant contend sl 1 2017

Depends if you are wedded to aluminium or not. You could get a carbon framed bike for the same money. Similar geometry too by the looks of it. Probably easier to test ride the giant though. Depending on where you live.

Interesting... no dont mind allu or carbon... i live in coventry west mids but have family i go see in barnsley so planet x not too far away

Don't make the mistake of getting all unnecessarily tumescent about 105.
This Tiagra is as good / indistinguishable from 5700 105, it's not 11 speed, but then most people don't really need 11 speeds for the most part

You know what, from the big brands, Spesh, Trek, Cannondale, Giant, £1k seems to get you a solid 1Ks worth of bike that with the right rider, could certainly compete with anyone riding something 5 times as much.

If you like the look of it, you'll ride it more. If it tickles yer pickle then go for it.
